Why does yoga (+movement) make you feel so damn good?

☀️ I love your energy ☀️ It’s a beautiful act of love to move our bodies, to open into the heart space, to allow time for self inquiry and connecting to the beautiful vessel that moves us in this reality.   I always knew that yoga felt good but I didn’t always understand the why. I knew that I felt good after I ran and after doing some strength training. I knew that there was a release of feel good chemicals in the brain after working out. 🏋️‍♀️ I knew I was telling my body, “I am strong” just by the mere actions of moving the body in space, performing the basic and necessary foundational motions such as hip hinging, squatting, arm extension and flexion, pushing, pulling, etc. We are evolutionarily wired to move. To travel through our limbs, to forage, to squat, to be able to get up off the ground without assistance. Our bodies are so capable. The thing that stops them is prolonged sitting, hunching over computers and phones and living sedentary …

quick and easy omega 3 + antioxidant rich chia jam

This is the…JAM   Howdy friends, I wanted to share a super tasty…and super easy way to make chia jam! I try to live by the words of Michael Pollen when it comes to food, “Eat whole foods, mostly plants.” So chia jam…Maybe you have heard? If not…it’s a beautiful way to incorporate chia seeds and uptake your fruit intake. Nutritional Facts A few nutritional tid bits about what this JAM entails. As someone studying for my nutrition certificate, I feel inclined to share 😃 Omega-3 + Omega-6 Omega 3’s + 6’s are Polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs) and can be both good and bad. Omega 3 has many benefits. It is anti inflammatory, an important nutrient for brain health as it switches on the production of stem cells which helps you repair the memory and learning centers of the brain. A plant based diet is rich in Omega 3’s as are flax seeds and flax oil, but also includes some fish and high quality grass fed meat. Omega 6’s are inflammatory…which is seen as the root …

Leaning into Human Design

Following my Human Design I’ve officially done it…I’ve finally started to use my Human Design to do the things I am meant to do on this Earth 🌏 Excited to announce that you can now find me on Youtube. I love speaking and sharing what’s on my mind…and what’s coming from the I space…because I am an Ego / Heart ❤️  / Will Manifestor in Human Design. I am leaning more and more into what is natural to me in this lifetime. What’s right for me, might not be right for you and that’s okay 👍  I hope to bring OHC to a new dimension, sharing in a more sensory way…all about my personal journey in health, wellness, nature, self love and so much more. All with the intention of creating content that is accessible for all. The true mission of OHC.  Using Human Design to lean deeper into myself I am learning to lean into my Human Design as an Ego Manifestor who needs to speak in a spontaneous way with “the world.” I …

Learning to let go, the art of responding and not reacting

It’s easy to get caught up in the storm of reactivity, especially when we’ve done it so many times before. Neurology has show us that when we repeatedly fire and wire the same neurons, it’s easier for us to develop a pattern, in this example, being Reactive. The trick is to act differently than even you expect yourself to. Change the pattern, change the behavior. Dr. Joe Dispenza   Anytime we are with another person, we stand a chance of facing disagreements, irritation or frustration. Sometimes for a good reason, other times because we’re just strange humans trying to navigate our lives. It’s a very human thing to experience. But what makes all the difference is…how we choose to respond.    As one of my favorite songs quotes, “It’s not what happens, it’s how you respond.”     How do we loosen up our grip on reactivity, being right, or just plain clinging to our ego? Simply put…we let go. Allow it all to be. No one is right, no one is wrong. You just …

chair pose

Yoga Asana, Twisting into Revolved Chair Pose, Parivrtta Utkatasana

Feeling into the strength of the body, my quads awaken, noticing their own ability. Their power. The grace of the twist is intentional and love centered as the heart space shines up towards the beautiful sun. For this asana, you start in chair pose, Utkatasana, feet are hip distance apart, sitting back into your seat, knees strong and bending as your hips sink back, axial extension through the spine as you twist from the thoracic and connect your opposite elbow to the opposite knee. And don’t forget to breathe and move your beautiful energy around. Settling into Parivrtta Utkatasana Revolving the body in space while feeling into the strength of the legs. This is a beautiful pose to find your self in and to feel fully into the body. It allows our spinal column to express itself outside of the normal motions of forward and backward. To twist is to wring out tension that settles along the central nervous system, our side body, and hips. Revolved chair pose feels both vulnerable and strong. …

Morning Routine, Honoring the Beautiful Stillness

The ambrosial hours when the world is a little more still, allowing us to gently ease into the day. Our brains are in a slower brain wave pattern as we are just coming from sleep, making our subconscious more receptive and permeable. There is less stimulation so we can more readily drop into our personal self study. We must make conscious efforts to honor that stillness by not immediately tapping into the pleasure reward cycle of dopamine.   Consciously choosing to start the day in a defined way…with intention and love for the self. We can choose to honor these hours as Sacred space instead of getting caught up in the masculine swirl of energy that is so prominent in the western world. The masculine energy is something we all have embodied in our soul and it serves it’s purpose. I’m learning to value the balance of our inner dual energies, the sacred masculine and feminine, for they both contribute to our wellbeing. The feminine energy is nurturing, attentive and filled with curiosity…more about …
