Building Love for Oneself

Cultivating love for the longest relationship of our lives I am currently listening to the book, Embrace your Power by Louise Hay and feel inspired to share about the journey of self love. Loving ourselves is radical work that is necessary in our world. When we show up for ourselves, we show up for the world. We are programmed from an early age to believe that we are not good enough until…We have this….we are that…etc. We are hardwired to see lack…when there is so much abundance in our lives. When we learn to jump out of ourselves and sense our true reality, that everything we need we already have, we can feel a sense of peace. โ˜ฎ๏ธ To really truly let go of of all of the conditioning and to say to yourself, I am not broken Everything is always working out for me The Universe Loves me and no matter what, this will work out to my advantage.   This peace rests in accepting ourselves and loving our selves exactly as we are. …

Backyard Foraging

It’s time to do a little Backyard Foraging It’s spring in Michigan and things are starting to feel a little bit greener, lighter and…tasty ๐Ÿ˜‹ I love foraging and have been learning about “edible weeds” for the past 3 years or so. I am an herbalist in training and really love learning about the medicinal properties of food and the things that we ingest. I was so lucky to find 4 morels in our back yard, in addition to some dandelion greens, violet flowers and leaves and some wild and cultivated chives. Humans have been eating from the land for a long time We can all play part in that ancestral tradition by learning what grows in our area. There are many incredible guidebooks and lots of useful online information about foraging. Plants can be used as food (you can ingest them as you would food) or they can be medicinal (you should be working with these plants in a medicinal way and knowing for certain how much etc.) We use herbs as “medicine” in …

Choosing to be Healthy

The pillars of health are something that we can influence Choosing to be healthy: We can make conscious decisions to affect our health and over all wellbeing. And we have the right to take our health into our own hands, and yes regardless of our genetics, what you have done in the past, and what you have been brought up to believe. Just because our parents become sick from this that and the other thing or, “oh this runs in my family…” It doesn’t mean it’s your fate, neuroplasticity is tellings us that when we change our environment, aka the things we do with our time, our surroundings, the food we eat, and everything that we have control over, we can change the expression of our genes. AMAZING! I have been on a health journey for the past 5 years + and it’s been such a beautiful experience. Knowing that I am in control of my health Health is created on the foundation of many things…the sum of all parts of ourselves and we can …

Wake Up and Hydrate

#hydrochamp Hydration is so important for all the major functions of our beautiful bodies.ย  Water is life. The first thing we drink waking up can have a great impact on our overall health and wellbeing. So instead of grabbing that cup of joe or even cacao…make sure you hydrate your body first. This will help you have regular elimination which is so important. We should be going #2 at least 1 time per day. If you are not able to go, then you need to eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains if you body can handle them. Try to avoid dairy as it can be anti-inflammatory and can cause diarrhea for some people. Instead try to eat dairy as a special treat and at the highest quality you can afford.ย  Just a reminder…our bodies are 70% water…just like our beautiful planet…70% water…pretty incredible. Water is life   My new approach to hydration ๐Ÿ’ง Step 1-Use a tongue scraper (ancient Ayurvedic approach to overall health, cleaning all the bacteria from the tongue) Check out package …

Our Favorite Hiking ๐Ÿฅพ Snacks

Hello Healthy hiking snacks ๐Ÿ‘‹ When you are on the trail you should always bring some tasty snacks to help sustain your body. Your body needs fuel and wants to be fed…clean. Clean ingredients so it can thrive and carry you on the trail.   I always have my day pack ready with a protein bar just in case I do an impromptu hike but I typically like to plan my snacks ahead, especially for longer hikes. These are a few of our favorite things ๐Ÿ’ง ๐ŸŒบ Chia Gel Drink This one is great…hydrating and full of Omega 3s, which are so nourishing and anti-inflammatory. Chia is a great way to balance our Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio. It’s ideal to strive for a 1:1 ratio of 3’s:6’s, but our modern diet is all about those Omega 6’s. But then Mama chia came along to save the day. This amazingly refreshing drink is great for hikes and long days in the sun.ย  I use an old GT’s kombucha bottle for this. You will need… …

Ways you can connect with Nature

How can we connect deeper with the Nature? There are so many ways we can connect with the Earth. Something I have been reflecting on a lot after our Smokey Mountains National Park road trip. Connecting with nature feels so good. It rejuvenates us and fills us with a remembering of our own inner light. I always knew being in nature felt good and I know there is so much scientific evidence to support that, buy my heart tells me…of course it feels good. Some ways we can connect to the Earth ๐ŸŒ โœ… Go for a sunrise / sunset ๐ŸŒ… walk There is a lot of research that suggests that sunsets and sunrises help attune our hormones to our natural mammalian rhythms. We have been evolving for a very long time to see the colors of the sky in the morning and night. Getting fresh air is so good for you and really keeps your being in check. The sun’s light signals when it’s time to wake and when it’s time to sleep. A …

Hiking in my Xero Z-Trail Ev Sandals

Why I love hiking in my Xero’s Comfort ๐Ÿ’œ They are super comfortable, each strap fits very gently and comfortably on the foot. Even after a long day of hiking and my feet are feeling tired, I look forward to putting them on again in the morning. They allow my feet to breath and take in all the good nutrients that the earth provides for us. Toe Splay ๐Ÿฆถ The toes are allowed to spread as nature intended. Think about how cramped your feet get when you wear regular tennis shoes, joggers, etc. Our feet are meant to splay and to engage in the environment.   Thin Soles ๐ŸŒŽ The soles are thin and allow you to receive biofeedback from your environment. When we wear thick padded shoes we are getting a “false” sense of what’s really there. These shoes really help me understand my environment and I firmly believe they have contributed to my over all foot strength and mobility of my ankle. The foot is so so complicated and beautiful. It literally holds …
