Changing with the seasons

I wanted to talk about the idea of using seasons like we have here in Michigan as a means of doing some deep interpersonal work. All winter I had been leaning into the idea of rest and relaxation and just allowing time and space to exist and incubate. To be inside the cave medicine of my heart, of going inward and just settling into the deepness of rest instead of getting caught up in the do do do like our society often commands.   Enter Spring For the season of spring I am working on letting go, some thing that is easy to say but not always easy to do. We can get cues from nature, inspiration and learn grace. I am learning as I’m watching life grow from the death of last year, seeing the brown leaves of last season create fertile ground and watching as new life springs forth. Coming back to the remembering that life is always in flux and is constantly changing. So for me and actually a friend of mine …

Why does yoga (+movement) make you feel so damn good?

☀️ I love your energy ☀️ It’s a beautiful act of love to move our bodies, to open into the heart space, to allow time for self inquiry and connecting to the beautiful vessel that moves us in this reality.   I always knew that yoga felt good but I didn’t always understand the why. I knew that I felt good after I ran and after doing some strength training. I knew that there was a release of feel good chemicals in the brain after working out. 🏋️‍♀️ I knew I was telling my body, “I am strong” just by the mere actions of moving the body in space, performing the basic and necessary foundational motions such as hip hinging, squatting, arm extension and flexion, pushing, pulling, etc. We are evolutionarily wired to move. To travel through our limbs, to forage, to squat, to be able to get up off the ground without assistance. Our bodies are so capable. The thing that stops them is prolonged sitting, hunching over computers and phones and living sedentary …

Morning Routine, Honoring the Beautiful Stillness

The ambrosial hours when the world is a little more still, allowing us to gently ease into the day. Our brains are in a slower brain wave pattern as we are just coming from sleep, making our subconscious more receptive and permeable. There is less stimulation so we can more readily drop into our personal self study. We must make conscious efforts to honor that stillness by not immediately tapping into the pleasure reward cycle of dopamine.   Consciously choosing to start the day in a defined way…with intention and love for the self. We can choose to honor these hours as Sacred space instead of getting caught up in the masculine swirl of energy that is so prominent in the western world. The masculine energy is something we all have embodied in our soul and it serves it’s purpose. I’m learning to value the balance of our inner dual energies, the sacred masculine and feminine, for they both contribute to our wellbeing. The feminine energy is nurturing, attentive and filled with curiosity…more about …

My Journey with Meditation

They say that showing up is the hardest part, especially in our “busy” world. Today I showed up with a candle and fixed my gaze upon the gentle organic shape of the flame. Pure, gentle beauty. My eyes and mind transfixed on the simplicity of it all. My inner mind whispers, Thank you for showing up today. I typically don’t use a candle when I meditate, but I had just received my Michigan made beeswax candle and used them last night for my full moon ceremony. It felt only right to continue to honor that flame. It was warm and inviting, which means a lot in a Michigan winter. I have been contemplating the space that fire holds, as it’s been a constant companion in my Cacao Ceremonies over the past few months. honoring the flame that transmutes, shifts energy, burning away the things that no longer serve. The fire lives with in all of us, and we live in the fire. The eternal flame of light. We are made of the elements.   Nothing …

connecting to the spirit of winter

Leaning into winter   It has been a process and it’s not always comfortable, but wow is it a beautiful way to pass the time as the sun sets early and we find ourselves spending much more time indoors. Being in the cold makes you feel alive. The cool air permeating your earth suit. You are immediately taken into awareness. You feel the cold in so many different ways and they’re all lovely, making you appreciate your home and it’s levels of “comfort” even more. As an avid nature love, I had always waited in anticipation for the spring…leading into summer and the fall. Three seasons I have always easily loved. Winter has it’s own sense of wonder. As a native Michigander, winter has been part of my life since my first year of life on this wondrous planet. I was born in the spring so I always said spring was my favorite season, the season I was born into, just after the start of spring on March 22.   Bursting with life, just …

#CacaoEveryDay, A 7 Day Wellness Experience with Cacao Lab

I wanted to take a moment to share my personal participation with Cacao Lab’s 7 Day Wellness exchange starting Monday! In case you feel inspired to join along, please follow my journey. Cacao is rich, velvety, nourishing, earthy. She sings songs and whispers softly to my heart. Working with cacao is a beautiful and spiritual experience that has the ability to gently open the heart space, creating vulnerability and true tenderness. It starts this coming Monday January 24, 2022 and will be lasting for 7 days. It is a chance to explore the medicine of Mama Cacao, to create space for ritual, inquiry, growth and to dig deep into the places we sometimes neglect. Offering ourselves a chance to explore spiritual self care. The over arching theme of this exchange will be, How do we come back to ourselves during times of uncertainty?   A few questions to contemplate or journal about related to this are: How do you create your sacred space? What elements need to be present for you to feel safe to …

Love yourself into the wild unknown

In alignment with this week’s podcast on loving yo’ sweet self. For some of us, it’s the greatest challenge in the world. For other’s it’s effortless. It’s natural. Some of us have been pushed and pulled and carry a more sensitive mental make up than others. All of this is a okay. Where ever you are at, Know you are loved Know you deserve love know that you are love I have been on the journey, a long journey of self love and it’s something I hope to encourage others to embark on. It is my hope that we are all doing this in our subtle ways. Self love is so so so valuable. We all need to practice it in ways that feel fulfilling to us. Everyone’s definition of self care is different, but it’s about, as Yoga with Adriene, would say…finding what feels good. We all deserve time and space for love and appreciation of our bodies, our minds and where we are at on our wayward earth side journey.  It’s a …

Ritual in a modern world

I used to think of ritual as something I wasn’t allowed to be apart of. I had often seen it as this highly sacred thing that maybe existed in past cultures, other countries and places of worship. It was never in my dialogue or understanding and to be honest it wasn’t something I knew a whole lot about. I am on that path of learning. The path of waking up, which I believe we all are. When one light shines, the others can’t help but to shine as well. So what is ritual and why in the world of technology and information would we need this? I have stumbled upon the use of the word through Youtube artist, Caro Arevalo, whom I adore. She makes incredible, thoughtful works that act as celebrations and love letters to the plant and animal and fungi kingdoms of our gracious planet. She is a Peruvian born artist and connects deeply with her roots. It was from watching her channel that I learned how integrates ritual into her everyday life. …
