Choosing to be Healthy

The pillars of health are something that we can influence Choosing to be healthy: We can make conscious decisions to affect our health and over all wellbeing. And we have the right to take our health into our own hands, and yes regardless of our genetics, what you have done in the past, and what you have been brought up to believe. Just because our parents become sick from this that and the other thing or, “oh this runs in my family…” It doesn’t mean it’s your fate, neuroplasticity is tellings us that when we change our environment, aka the things we do with our time, our surroundings, the food we eat, and everything that we have control over, we can change the expression of our genes. AMAZING! I have been on a health journey for the past 5 years + and it’s been such a beautiful experience. Knowing that I am in control of my health Health is created on the foundation of many things…the sum of all parts of ourselves and we can …

Why does yoga (+movement) make you feel so damn good?

☀️ I love your energy ☀️ It’s a beautiful act of love to move our bodies, to open into the heart space, to allow time for self inquiry and connecting to the beautiful vessel that moves us in this reality.   I always knew that yoga felt good but I didn’t always understand the why. I knew that I felt good after I ran and after doing some strength training. I knew that there was a release of feel good chemicals in the brain after working out. 🏋️‍♀️ I knew I was telling my body, “I am strong” just by the mere actions of moving the body in space, performing the basic and necessary foundational motions such as hip hinging, squatting, arm extension and flexion, pushing, pulling, etc. We are evolutionarily wired to move. To travel through our limbs, to forage, to squat, to be able to get up off the ground without assistance. Our bodies are so capable. The thing that stops them is prolonged sitting, hunching over computers and phones and living sedentary …

Leaning into Yoga

I have been on my Yoga journey for a small period of my life but it has transformed me beyond my own recognition of myself. It was knocking at my spiritual door for many years and it was only recently that I decided to open that door and let that reconnecting with spirit in. This past summer, I decided to to delve into Yoga Teacher Training with Detroit Yoga Lab.   This was actually the same studio I took my first real yoga class from.   Let me take you back, I was a graduate student at Wayne State in the Fine Arts Department and my room mate invited me to sign up for a week of yoga. It was a great move for me at that period of my life and left a strong imprint in my memory. calm peacefulness noticing my body in space and time realizing that the body needs to be respected I felt so rested that I fell asleep during the class. As someone who has always been a high …

Movement is medicine

Movement makes you feel good. Movement has been the secret medicine in my life for many years. It all started in Junior High school when I joined the cross country team. I was unprepared and wore platform sneakers and got scoffs from all the older kids. It was the era of the spice girls and everyone wanted platform sneakers. Mine were white, about 2 inches and had a cute little patriot star on them. I eventually got some real running shoes and found myself naturally good at the art of controlled falling. Moving one foot in front of the other. I did well in competition and noticed that I had the inclination to keep up with the high school kids, much to their dismay. I was competitive and loved being in the lime light. It was a beautiful chance for me to shine and get some attention. Things at home were confusing, my parents had just divorced and I needed an outlet to channel my feelings. Running and movement was the answer and the community …
